Biofuel Express continues the climate fight by signing up for Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which purpose is to provide companies with the tools to achieve net-zero emissions. Committing to SBTi will provide pathway to reducing the carbon footprint and creating even greater transparency, in relation to the work that is already being done internally within the company, to reach the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and transform business operations to fit the future low-carbon economy.

What is the Science Based Targets initiative?
SBTi is one of the leading global drivers and initiatives targeting climate action within the business sector. The initiative is based on enabling organisations to set scientifically based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

SBTi is founded by a partnership between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildelife Fund (WWF). The aim is to show companies and institutions how much and how quickly they will have to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change.

Among other things, SBTi is a leading partner in the corporate ambition of the 1.5°C campaign – an urgent call for action from a global coalition of UN agencies, business and industry leaders that mobilize companies to set science-based targets on zero emissions in line with a future aiming for the temperature not to exceed 1.5°C.

The significance of the registration for Biofuel Express
Biofuel Express has always focused on the green values and this journey will only support the work that has already been done for the environment and climate in the company. In practice, this means that Biofuel Express commits to measure and report the company’s CO2 emissions and, not least, to ensure that the climate footprint is gradually reduced to net zero.

“As an organisation, we are very much in favour of transparency and have always had the green agenda in mind. We have already done a lot to create a sustainable business, and our customers’ reporting on the use of renewable fuels can already be documented through our customer portal Biofuel Express Insight. Therefore, the most natural and imminent next step was to join Science Based Targets, which can help pave the way towards a net-zero business in the future,” says Liene Norberg, responsible for sustainability at Biofuel Express.

Initially, Biofuel Express’ commitment is approved, and the next step in the process is therefore an inventory of the emissions today and preparation of a detailed plan to achieve the science-based targets for the company.
